Of course I don't have time to get this sad little blog completely updated, but I will give you a tidbit while I'm here:
Temples 29 and 30...CHECK!
Last month Lizzie and I took a day trip to Idaho. We visited the Idaho Falls Temple, which I affectionately refer to as #29. And the Rexburg Temple...#30!!! My first big 30 goal accomplished! I have officially visited (been inside and done work in) 30 temples in my short life :) Yea! Let's see if we can make it to 50...

This is a line from Stranger Than Fiction, one of my favorite movies. I just really like this line.
So, if you hadn't noticed, I recently took a trip to Japan with my sister, Mindy. I'll see if I can figure out how to post a few pictures. It was a great trip; nice to get away for a little while. The Japanese people were very friendly and helpful :) We saw a lot of temples and shrines! And of course went to the LDS temple in Tokyo. Ate at a fun little cafe in Kyoto called The Talking Giraffe...loved it! Melon soda at Mos Burger, yum! Beautiful cherry blossoms everywhere. And cucumber sushi, because let's face it, I don't like seafood. Honestly food was the most difficult part of the trip; got tired of the seaweed pretty quickly. Well, that's kind of a short synopsis of the trip...hopefully pics soon :)

30 temples before I'm 30
One of my goals is to attend my 30th LDS temple before I turn 30. When I turned 29 I had been to 25 temples, so that means I have to get to five before the year is over. Well, I'm happy to report that I am well on my way, 3 down, 2 to go...

Draper, UT Temple. Lizzie, Debbie and I went to the (fairly) new Draper temple in February.

Tokyo, Japan Temple. Mindy and I went to the Tokyo temple on April 9th! We went all the way to Japan to go to that temple! Honestly, we kind of did. Totally worth it.

A nice little romance. Pulls at the heart strings a little and reminds us that we're all just human...no one is perfect and love is accepting that fact and working together to move through imperfections. Watched this on the plane ride to Tokyo from Seattle.

Funny, but much filthier than I was hoping it would be. I watched this one on the airplane home from Tokyo, it was edited (a little) and still too filthy.

Also watched this one on the airplane. It was really interesting. It showed a side of Michael Jackson that I don't think the majority of people had ever seen before. And it totally made me want to dance! I might have to take some dance lessons now :)

Chad and I saw this at the dollar theater; (I love dollar movies). I really enjoyed this film, more than I had anticipated. It was a lot of fun. It was entertaining and it also really got my mind turning, trying to figure out the mystery myself; definitely enjoyed it :)

I really like how the film focuses on Mike's accomplishments and the good hearts of the people who took him in, loved him, and helped him to succeed. There is actually very little focus on the unfortunate circumstances he came from...at least in my opinion. I liked that the focused on the good and it was more looking "forward" than back. Nice, heartwarming story...and it's true.

These were very tasty and the oats made them seem a super healthy. However, I did add a quarter cup of sugar because they weren't quite sweet enough. And a little frosting on top is a tasty addition as well ;)

My friend, Debbie, set me up with a buddy of hers from high school. We doubled with Debbie and her husband. We had dinner at Sawadee Thai (my favorite Thai place in SLC); enjoyed some galleries that were participating in the downtown gallery stroll; then enjoyed some Tillamook ice cream (Yeah!). I had a great time, it was a super fun night. My date and I had a lot in common and the conversation was very comfortable. He served his mission in Seattle (love!), he's super into photography (totally approve), and he was funny (VERY important). It was a great way to start off the weekend right and leave the crappy work weak behind. And Debbie gets points for setting me up with someone funny :) Overall date rating: 9.

Well, okay...laughing my head off!

The Twilight Series: New Moon; Rating: 6
Yea, yea, I know, some people thing Twilight is silly. Don't worry, I'm not a crazed fan...obviously, I waited until New Moon was at the dollar theater before I went to see it.
Lizzie and I went to see this last weekend. Unfortunately I wasn't very impressed. If I had not read the book I'm pretty sure I would have been extremely confused the whole time. And I did actually find myself confused several time; I had to think back to the book to figure out what was happening. I feel like it skipped a lot of details...although I suppose that's common with movies based on books.
The cinematography was much better than the first movie. However, the special effects could have used some help; I didn't feel like the wolves were very realistic looking. But I do think the acting improved slightly.

Chad, Lizzie and I enjoyed this movie together last night.
HILARIOUS!!! I nearly laughed my guts out!!!
Of course there is some zombie gore, but I think they did a really good job of cutting out the gruesome stuff, I feel like they kept it pretty mild, which I appreciated. There is quite a bit of swearing, unfortunately, but I expected that.
My favorite part was Bill Murray! This movie was awesome!

Sushi? No thanks.

I have tried sushi a few times and have yet to enjoy it. However, I am heading to Japan next month and so I thought I'd better give sushi another shot. So, I called in an expert to teach me about sushi and hopefully help me find some that I could enjoy...or at least tolerate enough to order when I'm in Japan.
So, with my expert, Derrek, and my good friend, Lizzie, who actually likes sushi I found myself at Rice.
Rice is a fairly new restaurant in a new building, it was very nice and elegant. The one thing I would change about the atmosphere was the trance music that was playing, it was a bit much.
As for the food; we only sampled the sushi, so I cannot comment on the regular menu. According to the expert and the sushi lover, the sushi was good. According to me, the sushi was difficult to swallow. I have really tried, but sushi is just not for me. However, I think I know what I can order in Japan and tolerate...so that I can say I ate sushi in Japan, where you should eat it.

My friend, Chad, and I decided to try a new restaurant last night, but it was closed...so we found ourselves at Five Guys, which was still a new dining experience for us. At Five Guys they like to tell you how fresh their food is. Apparently the meat is never even frozen. Well, they are right! That was the freshest burger I think I have ever eaten. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and were full of flavor. However, it was also kind of a pricey burger, but there are FREE peanuts, so I guess that makes up for it :)

What do you do when you are sick? Watch movies...
I've had a nasty cold this week and am staying home to avoid getting everyone at work and their offspring sick too. Right now I'm watching The Proposal, which I have seen before, but it's so good I rented it again. I have watched a couple of new flicks this week too, so here are my reviews...

More Yum!

Ruth's Diner; www.ruthsdiner.com Rating: 9. (I don't think I'm very good at rating things. Maybe I'm just not very picky. I suppose it's kind of good that I'm easy to please...maybe.)
Okay, so I have been to Ruth's once before, I went for dinner a couple of years ago. However, I have decided I can count this as a new restaurant because Ruth's is known for breakfast and I had never had breakfast there before. And it's been years, so it really was a new experience.
My friend, Cherilyn, was visiting from Seattle this weekend (Yeah!). We arrived at Ruth's, which is a couple of miles up Emigration Canyon, around 10:15am. Unfortunately the wait was about 40 minutes! But, it was a gorgeous day! So we sat outside and soaked up some sun while we waited for our table. (Okay, it was still a little chilly out, but it really was a beautiful day.) Ruth's dining room is in an old rail car, so it's not very big. During the summer there is also seating outside, which probably more than doubles the capacity.
Before we even had a chance to order the waitress had brought us our mile high biscuits. And yes, they are HUGE! And fluffy and warm and scrumptious! I probably could have been satiated with just a biscuit and a cup of cocoa :)
We ordered Ruth's breakfast combo: eggs, french toast, hash browns and thick farm fresh bacon. It was all very tasty! We were so full by the end of our meal that they had to roll us out of the restaurant. (Okay, maybe not quite, but I was definitely stuffed!)
All in all, quaint environment and tasty food...Totally recommend it and I plan on visiting again soon!

I love bran muffins! I may be one of very few people under the age of 60 who would pick a bran muffin over any other muffin, but that's okay, I'm comfortable with myself. Anyway...
I am so proud of myself for baking bran muffins! I've always thought they would be really hard to make, for some reason. They really weren't that difficult though.
They smelled delicious! And they were very tasty! My taste tester for the evening, Chad, thought they were super tasty too! Chad is another person under the age of 60 who enjoys a good bran muffin :)

Rejection and other stuff
Date rejection #1 :(
I had this great plan for a fun date this weekend and picked out a fun guy in my ward to ask out. Unfortunately, when I asked him if he was free for a date he said he was free time wise, but not free relationship wise. Sad news! However, the good news is that he was very polite and sincere and... HONEST! (Who knew that was possible?) He thanked me for thinking of him, which I thought was very nice. We had a nice chat and a few laughs too. I think I made an impression, so if whatever he has going on right now doesn't work out (not that I want that to happen or anything) I'm hoping he'll think of me ;)
So, no date this weekend :( We'll have to make up for it next week :)

Rating: 10! My co-worker brought in a pepperoni pizza from Zeponie for lunch on Monday. It was fantastic! Fabulous crust! Perfect amount of sauce! Tasty cheese! Definitely a place I will visit again!

#4 Pungent Spice-Infused Hot Chocolate, from Hot Chocolate by Michael Turback
Rating: 4. I hate to give such a low score to a hot chocolate, but this one just didn't make the cut. It took forever to make, for one. And it was thick and sludgy (obviously I did something wrong). It was also too strong for my taste. The recipe calls for bittersweet chocolate, but I used more of a semi-sweet, maybe that affected the taste too much. I put it in the fridge and rewarmed it later for a second taste. Not sludgy this time, but still too strong, I couldn't finish it :(
#5 Peanut Crunch Bars, from Great American Recipes
Rating: 9. Yumstastic! I've been looking for a recipe for these for a while. The only down side is that the recipe says they take 10-15 minutes to make...try 45-60! I'm a little bitter about that, hence the 9 rating rather than a 10. But the bars themselves are super awesome!
So, it's been suggested that I post all of these recipes so you can try them too. I know, I know. Hold your horses, I'll get them up here soon...-ish ;)

Date #1...29 to go.
Went on Date #1 Saturday night! My co-worker set me up with a friend of a friend.
We went bowling with some of his friends. I am a terrible bowler. In fact I bowl better with my left hand even though I am right handed...strange. Anyway, that's beside the point.
We had a good time. I think the audience we brought with us made us a bit too self-conscious, but that's okay.
To sum up; nice guy, pretty cool, I'd hang out with him again.
Now I'm supposed to be rating these dates, at least I promised to. I feel a little strange doing that. So, I'm going to tell you now that I am rating the overall date experience, not the person. So, I'll say date #1 was a 6.

Let's catch up
Since there isn't too terribly much to catch up on (I only started a couple of weeks ago), I thought I would just quickly get everyone caught up on my adventures...
Recipes!
#1 Lemon Garlic Chicken, from the kitchen of my talented sister, Richelle. Rating: 10 Super tasty! Fast and easy too!
#2 Pineapple Scones, from allrecipes.com, http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pineapple-Scones/Detail.aspx?src=etaf. Rating: 7 Yum! For next time, I think an orange glaze over the scones would complete the taste very nicely.
#3 Chocolate Banana Muffins, from Great American Recipes. Rating 6 Tasty, but a little too much chocolate, even for me. I think next time I would make a few adjustments...milk chocolate for one and/or the alternative suggestion on the recipe to use raspberries and white chocolate sounds good too.
Restaurants!
#1 Beau Brummel Bakery; Highland Drive and 3100 S, SLC. Rating: 9 A little more expensive than I expected, but super yummy! The best cherry turnover I've ever eaten. And tasty cakes too, they gave me a little sample. I bought day old pastries, half price, but not half the taste!

#1 The Invention of Lying; http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1058017/ Rating: 5 Good overall message, don't blindly follow. However, I didn't care for the beginning of the movie at all.
#2 Whip it! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1172233/ Rating: 9 Loved it! We did fast forward a couple of short scenes. But it was hilarious! And by the end I felt like I could do anything!
Looks like I have a few favorites already. But that doesn't mean I'm not excited to try more! :)

The 30 Goals
Okay, so what is the deal with the 30 goals? I decided that the best way to forget about the depressing part of turning 30 this year would be to create a whole bunch of awesomeness to look forward to and enjoy instead. I am keeping track of new recipes I make, new restaurants I visit, new movies I watch, all the dates I go on, etc with the goal being 30 new in each category. And then there is the list of 30 goals I am making and checking off.
In this blog I intend to chronicle my adventures as I compile my various lists and check off my goals. And maybe, if you're lucky, you'll have nearly as much fun reading about my adventures as I have living them :)
Of course if you would like to offer any assistance with these goals, it is more than welcome.
